This car is getting a ton of praise. I love that 4 door liftbacks are a thing, and it makes a great shape. No doubt the silhouette of the car is great. But the details let it down, that tailights look cheap, and the the weird line off the lights... the chrome vent ripped right of a 4 series. The front end is a mess. And the wheels are pretty ugly too.

I wanted to love this car, but the more I look at it the more disappointed I am. At least it look better than th consept it came from.

The taillights scream Maserati Ghibli new gen Dodge Charger.

Headlights scream Hyundai genesis

The reason this car won’t sell is because it’s fucking ugly.

I like it. I don’t think it’s pretty either, but that’s fine. It’s clear Kia wanted to stand out in the crowd like most of the Japanese automakers are trying to do right now instead of being like everyone else and making a dialed down design. This is a car that looks like it was designed by a kid.

This car’s failing will not be its design. The K900 looked stunning, yet didn’t sell well. What will determine if this car will sell is if Kia could convince people to pay the price for something with a Kia badge. That’s always been Kia/Hyundai’s issue as of late with selling sports cars and luxury vehicles, breaking people out of the habit of buying something for the badge.

I agree. I really want to like this thing, but the shape is from a Jag, the lights are from a BMW in the front and a Dodge in the back, there are weird cues all over the thing, and it just doesn’t come together. I feel like people are mostly blinded by the fact that it’s a RWD Liftback Kia, which is fine and all, but it’s not pretty by any sense of the word.

Plus, it further confirms that Hyundai/Kia doesn’t know what the hell they’re doing. Why would Kia introduce this when Genesis exists? Also this thing isn’t gonna sell worth shit.

Meh. Probably going to be heavy, it is definitely automatic only, and too many exhaust tips. I was much more excited when this model was supposed to be a BRZ/FRS competitor. But that is an impossible market.

I’ll grant you the line off the taillights, especially close up like your picture. But, this car pretty well captures the styling of a lot of popular cars right now. If they have trouble selling it, it’s because it’s a KIA, in a very competitive price point.

I like most of it, but if I was designing it, I would’ve left off that weird line side marker off the taillights and that garish side vent. Aside from that, I think it looks pretty darn good.

Of course I’m bummed that it’s automatic-only, and I’ll probably be further bummed when the price of a 3.3L TT V6 is over $40k.

Yeah, the Stinger GT4 concept was much better, and I think made more sense for Kia. Hyundia, and now Genesis have moved up market for the most part. So I don’t get why Kia would do the same thing. It would make more sense to have Kia be the fun on a budget brand.

I do think it looks good. Like a current gen Camry looks good. But it’s being held up on a mantle as a beautiful car, and at a glance it is. The shape is great, I love the trim that flows from the font of the A pillars, over the roof, and down the C pillars, like an Optima. But it’s by no means pretty. The front and rear ends don’t even look like they are attached to the same car. They look like they were designed by two different people who never met.

No it isn’t pretty. Neither is the other popular 4 door liftback.

Kinja'd!!!

They both have unattractive front ends, where Tesla went as flush and boring as they could, Kia decided to make it ugly and too busy with too many fake vents, but I do approve of the Kia’s side profile more. It touches more on a coupe shape than the Tesla does.

I would much rather have the Aston Martin Rapide. It is a liftback that looks great, has an amazing interior, and the best motor of them all.

The extra weight also makes sense for a highway cruiser, as long as it has enough power to move that extra mass. This is the direction all of these cars are going.

No I know, some people like them. It isn’t really that they are ugly, but the are boring and not in an understated way, but it is like an expensive Camry. Other than the insane speed, it does literally nothing for me and then they take away the throaty engine noises. They are just Meh to me.

I know that is the direction these cars are going, which is what upsets me lol. Sure power to weight is important but that doesnt help in the handling department. Thankfully tire technology has gotten so good and suspension technology has advanced enough to still find a sweet spot for a good driving experience. Weight is just an engineering factor that is difficult/expensive to combat.

It’s not pretty, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s striking, and I think it’s very handsome. That line off the taillights is a clever way to hide the required reflector strips, I believe. And even if it didn’t look good, it would still be better than an ugly orange thing slapped on. Which unfortunately is what they did with the headlights.

Oh, and can everyone please direct your “Oh, X looks like Y and Z” comments toward me? Because you’re always wrong and honestly it’s a little frustrating.
