Going to NAIAS Next Week!

I found out today I’ll be attending my first Detroit Auto Show next week. It will probably be limited on time, so do any Oppos who have been have any suggestions on what are the must sees?

I think Richard Blade from First Wave on Sirius is DJing there.... Tell him to stop playing so much goddamn Morrissey.

(EDIT: Just remembered he was at CES, not this. Still... Find him and tell him that the Smiths are overrated and terrible.)

Pardon me for being the party pooper.. My advice is to see whatever you can. I went to the one in Atlanta ONCE. Ended up being a huge waste of time. There were mobs of people around everything. Could not get 1 decent picture, couldn’t sit in any car unless you are willing to force your way in (it was like an adult game of musical chairs). I can’t believe I wasted money to get in. I would of been better off taking an afternoon, and going to 5 different dealerships. I hope you’re going during the week, and not on a weekend.

I went with my son a couple of years ago. If you go in the middle of the week, the crowds are too bad, especially early in the morning, so get there as soon as you can. The Big 3 put on a good show, as it’s there home event, so I’d head to the GM, Ford and Chrysler areas first. The Germans are there, except for Porsche, which again snubs Detroit by not showing up. Always nice to soak in some rich car leather, which I’ll never be able to afford. I’d download the floor plan from the NAIAS web-site, so you know what you want to see before you arrive. And don’t eat at Cobo, it’s too expensive. Head out and find someplace nearby to eat. There are plenty of places to catch a quick bite if you want it. Wear comfy shoes, and leave your coat in the car, just wear a sweat shirt going in.

I think we’re going in the middle of the week late. Hoping the crowd won’t be too bad. If it is, there’s always NY to actually sit in cars. Went to the NY Auto show as soon as the doors opened last year and got great time with every car I wanted to check out.
