In a world where the size of the big stupid LCD screen being used to replace traditional instruments is a selling point for luxury cars, Lexus making the screen in the instrument cluster of the new LS only as big as it really needs to be is a decision that should be applauded.

Also, the wood/metal trim along the dash is so elegant it makes my pants feel tight.

It’s like the Rolls-Royce Phantom was when it first came out, recognizing that luxury is more than what there is, but also what there isn’t. It’s comfort and luxury by thoughtful subtraction. Elegance over excess.

You get the idea with that instrument screen that they did it not as a way to go HEY LOOK AT THIS! but as a way to actually reduce the amount of showyness and flash. Comfort and luxury by offering less stimulus, less distraction, and less stress.

I’ll say what I’ve always said about the current Lexus design language: at least it looks like something. You can’t say that about the German competition these days.
