Yet another reason why the Kia Stinger GT is going to be good.

It’s chassis and powertrain were set up by the guy who used to be the head of BMW’s M-division. Seriously .

So it will be expensive to fix? I just took down an auto show, the KIA area with the hamsters was pretty sad.

Fuck yes. Down under it is going to occupy the spot previously held down by sport versions of the Falcon and Commodore, at around 50kAUD, RWD (no awd option I’m Australia) sports-sedan. While it’s not a V8, the performance specs are on the money; and the cult status of the Falcon XR6 turbo has paved the way for it.

With the demise of the Australian automotive industry it literally has no competition

Full disclosure; possibly drunk when I typed this out

Side question: Your work is auto show stand set-up and tear down? That’s pretty cool!

Maybe HSV will get crazy and build us a Malibu SS...

Damn that blue looks good. I hope that color makes it to the production version.

I don’t know why it wouldn’t, this is the production version and that is an Optima color

Nice. I was thinking the blue on the Optima was a little darker for some reason.

I guess I should say I *think* this is the blue on the Optima. Looks pretty dang close anyways.

Yeah it does look close to it. If it isn’t the same it’s very similar.

What kind of engineer would stop working for BMW and start working for KIA?

I’m guessing either Kia offered more money, or BMW would let him build the car he wanted to build. Or maybe he just likes being the underdog

Nope! Most of the powertrain components will be shared with the Genesis G80 (formerly Hyundai Genesis), so you can expect great reliability and reasonable service costs.

I was just joking about BMW, there is no way I can drive a KIA, I can’t say, oh yeah I bought a KIA. I have a Datsun so I would have to get a Nissan or Infinity in that class. I like motorsport and there is no heritage with KIA, my wife is also Japanese so no way we buy a Korean car.

Why can’t you just say “oh yeah I bought a KIA?” (other than your wife being Japanese). It’s not really any different from when the LS400 came out, as a lot of people then mocked it for being “an expensive Corolla.” Kia also has a bit of motorsports history, as they dominated the Street Tuner class of the 2011 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, were fairly competitive in the World Challenge GTS series, have been fielded in numerous touring car series, and were one of the first manufacturers to get into B-spec racing. Kias have also been involved in stage rally and rallycross even as far back as 1996. Some good pedigree there.

1996 is not long ago My Datsun is a 71'. I don’t like new cars actually, I install car shows so I know all these new cars pretty well. I just put Mazda in actually. The brand has no appeal to me, I installed Hyundai in LA a couple times, I just can’t imagine wanting one. Most new cars are pretty much the same thing with a slightly different shape, so it has to have something special to even get my attention. Also resale, any new car I have isn’t going to be around forever, I keep my old cars forever, but the new ones are for DD and I don’t really care about them. So I get a Honda or Toyota because they hold value better and every one I have owned has been fantastic mechanically. Walking around the car show during the in this last week, I would say the Infinities were very nice to sit in and looked great. I did Mazda and the Miata is pretty nice, but the other cars didn’t do it for me, mostly all the crap with the keyless fob shit and computer nannies preventing me from doing things, like if the door was open I can’t do shit. Placing cars on the show floor is really annoying with new cars.

Keep in mind that when the Infiniti Q45 came out, the 240Z was only 20 years old. And you could say that all competing cars from a similar era look nearly identical. The S12 hatch, AE86 hatch, narrow body Starion, Dodge Daytona, and even the liftback Fox Body Mustang look pretty similar. Angular lines, similar proportions, vast liftback, flat bodysides, straight beltline. The fox body is the only one not to have pop-ups, which makes the rest look even more alike. In terms of resale, it won’t hold as much value as a Lexus or Infiniti, but the Stinger will beat most North-American competitors, let alone German competitors. I do get the annoyance with modern electronic gizmos, as very few people need all of this crap in their car.

I’m still waiting for FCA to introduce the Charger to Australia. A Kia/Dodge V8 Supercars (yeah yeah, it’s just Supercars now, but fuck you) would be amazing.
