Kinja'd!!!

Today was a big day! I passed my class 1 license. I absolutely nailed it. Not bad for being in pretty much the worst conditions possible, -20 degrees and 3" of snow on unplowed roads in blizzard conditions.( pic of truck is from last week). If anyone knows of some good class 1 employment opportunities in the Edmonton area please let me know.

I’ve been thinking about doing the same. Saving up one summer, taking the class the first winter, and then hauling the winter roads the next season. But you probably want to stay a bit closer to home.

Those are also almost the exact conditions I took my regular driving test in.

Yeah it cost me just about 4 grand. $3450 for the course,$200 for the road test,$140 for the medical,$69 to upgrade and renew my license.

I’ve been laid off in September and couldn’t find work so I had to do something. It seems the trucking industry is one of the only ones that is still booming.

If I knew everything I know now I would of done it as soon as I got laid off.

How long was the course, and how many hours per day?

When I was looking into it about four years ago most places were asking around $3000 so that’s not bad given inflation.

Awesome! I’ve been thinking about doing that, or at least my Class 3 for starters. I just hate the idea of driving a big truck in Vancouver, but my friends who do say it’s not bad once you’re used to it.

28 hours of in cab training minimum of 2 hours at a time and max of 4 hours. Then there was maybe 24 hours of in class stuff 4ish hours each course with the exception of the air brake course which was 10 hours.

It took about 3 weeks in total on a real part time basis. Training was 3-4 days a week at no more than 4 hours at a time.

It’s really not that much harder than driving a car. It’s actually much easier than I thought it was going to be.

I would go straight for the class 1 license. You can go work class 3 but having a class 1 in your back pocket can’t hurt.

Congrats! I was actually wondering yesterday about what you had been up to. I’m sorry to hear about work, but I’m glad to see that things are picking up for you. Here’s for the best!

Beleive it or not the more time I spend at home the less time I have for oppo. I always have something on the go and only look at oppo maybe once every 3 weeks.
