I saw this 1933 Duesenberg Model J with coachwork by Franay at the Councours d’Elegance of America over the summer, and I loved it. Apparently it sold at auction just four years ago for $1.65 million dollars. With that in mind, the current asking price of a paltry $1.1 million dollars seems extremely reasonable. I’ll take it, but put the thick white walls back on it first.

A classic like this deserves white wall tires. I think the asking price is definiyely reasonable given the market and the provenance of these cars. It does make you wonder why they are selling it at a loss that big, though. Cars like this are meant to be an investment.

Yeah, I’m not sure. It’s not like the market has been going down. All I can say is that the dealer selling it now is not the same one that paid $1.65 million for it, so it’s not their loss.

Beautiful. There is going to be some serious value to be had in prewar American classics in coming years, most of their ownership demographic is aging and later generations mostly don’t value them the same. Good news for us.
