Kinja'd!!!

Alright, so we’re nearing the end of the paint and body phase for the Jurassic Park Jeep! Last week primer was applied and this week means paint! So, as this phase draws to a close, its time for the phase that includes wiring 4 Jabsco marine search lights to the lightbar!

so how it works is, wiring runs through the light bar down into the dash as pictured below

hooking it to the controllers in the dash is all pretty straight forward thanks to the wiring diagram:

the thing i’m having trouble with is the best way to power these things. I’ve seen some people use a junction block and a relay but im not sure if that’s the best way. any tips would be helpful as I am not well versed in the magical world of wiring.

More details on the actual lights here: http://www.safety-marine.co.uk/downloads/Jabsco-135SL-Searchlight-Instruction-Sheet.pdf?did=348

Did you get the dual station installation kit like shown on page 3? Or are you using a separate controller for each light?

The job of the relays is to take the load off of the switch gear. It is NEVER a bad look to use them. Replacing relays is WAY easier than swapping out switches.

EE here. Your schematic... I just cant... But use relays, and make sure it’s fused close to the power source!

Here is a standard aux light wiring diagram;

Your lights are 50w each, so I would run them in pairs; 4.16A each light so a pair would be drawing 8.3A, 16.6A if they are all on.

Using a relay means the power that runs the lights doesn’t go through your dash and burn out your switch. it also means you can do tricks like instead of using Ignition (on with engine) you can power the switch input from your highbeams (driving lights) or low beams (fog lights).

I’ve got four Hella 500FF on my lightbar wired like this. They work great.
