End of the breed? Will we ever see another one like it? I sure hope so... Respect to Amesbury Chevrolet in Massachusetts for putting this one (manual and GREEN - link below) on their lot!

The question is: how many will miss the manual V8 sedan, and will it lead to a resurgence later on?

As for your question, yes, it will be for now.

I hope the clamor for one is such that Chevy will feel the need to make a new SS sedan based on the current Camaro SS chassis with the same engine, transmission and suspension. Question is whether they’d feel it would steal too many ATS-V sales. Some people just really want a V8...

What I don’t understand is why can’t GM take the CTS, put an LT1 in it, add Chevy badges and sell that as a new V8 RWD sedan with a manual or auto?

Thing is, even with engine, suspension, transmission, and platform already in existence, it would probably cost GM a few million (at the very least) to develop a new sedan, along with the factory toolings to make it. With only 3013 sold last year according to Good Car Bad Car, and the fact that it won’t be a cheap car like everyone would want it to be, it’s not happening.

Problem is, needs to be cheaper. The SS is in “shitty family hauler plus used c6 zo6" territory. For a super sedan to really do well it needs to offer the benefits of having a sport car and a sedan all in one, but without being able to buy one of each for the same price.

Because it wants to sell at least one ats-v

I wonder how much would it be to move the tooling to US or Canada to just keep building the same ones rather than developing a brand new one.

But then I guess the very same people will then start complaining the car is outdated and demands a new version.

Yup. Unfortunately, the SS was pretty much guaranteed to fail from the beginning.

I agree. The SS was only as expensive as it was because of it being manufactured in Australia and GM being committed to an unfavorable contract. They had to sell it here, but couldn’t sell it at a competitive price.

My guess is companies will put in the “manual shift” features we see in modern autos and call that good for the manual crowd.

Outside of that I can see manuals simply falling into kits for enthusiasts to convert their cars themselves.

Well, if about 3000 cars are selling at $46k USD each, that means the SS brings in $138 million USD annually for GM. The question is, how much of that is profit, and would that justify moving millions of dollars worth of equipment to make the car. Don’t forget, they’d probably have to source parts suppliers from the US or Canada as well, since I imagine most of the parts for the SS are manufactured in Australia.

I could be cheap -er . The Holden production was the real reason they had to sell them for the price they did. Once the initial investment is made to make them here, why couldn’t it be sold for around the same price, or for slightly more than a Camaro SS ($10k cheaper than the Holden sold for)?

Dodge sold nearly 100k Chargers per year 2013-16. Chevy could make the SS replacement with as many varieties as there are for the Charger. There are sales to be stolen at the right price.

Some said OP, but discounted a bit, for what you get, it’s a lot of car. Probably goes the way of the GTO and G8.

You’d think they could just change the headlights, taillights, hood and front & rear fascia and make it different enough to sell as a Chevy...

But there’s the thing: initial investment. Does that mean initial cars would be more expensive than they are now, or stay the same price? Because at the price they are now, I can’t imagine the number of sales increasing. Furthermore, as Toni_Cipriani pointed out, people would eventually demand a new car. I mean, the Zeta platform is eleven years old now, so to develop a new platform, develop new tooling, all for a few thousand sales a year (especially at a time when sedan sales seem to be slumping), and there’s no good business reason to build it.

They definitely need a price point of around $40k to move them.

They could do an ATS with new headlights, taillights, hood and front & rear fascia, put a V8 in it, downgrade the interior, and slap Chevy badges on them...

Considering Corvettes start at $55k, yes, it is. But it clearly cost more than people were willing to pay. They all bought Chargers instead.

I think they made very little profit on each SS. They were obligated to sell them here. If they were actually making good money selling them, they would have marketed them much more aggressively.

Hey, if it’s Aussie-sourced, V8, RWD, and has a version used in a police capacity, CLOSE ENOUGH. For that matter, Max’s car had a blower on it too.

If Ford wanted to they could revive it as a smaller car (like the old Ford Capri) to compete with the 370Z or Scion FRS or something. Won’t happen though unfortunately.
