Somebody should be shot for putting that front end on the LS. It’s fine on your middle-aged wife’s mall hopper, but on an LS? C’Mon Toyota. I’m going to murder a Prius if they put that grill on the Land Cruiser.

Only thing good is the dash doesn’t have a stupid iPad hanging out. But the car itself at that angle looks like an IS + Panamera.

I don’t love the way they “Maxima’d” the rear. It looks terrible in my opinion. I always loved the stubborn simplicity of the LS shape against so much “dynamic” styling among the others. What happened to choice?

Aerodynamics, probably.

The people who buys these want a big sedan with a big V8, just like they had in 1950. That Lexus/Toyota would move to a 3.5TT V6 says volumes as to how hard it is to stay ahead of emission/fuel economy regulations.

I am okay with using those regulations to move car companies forward and reduce our use/dependence on carbon-based fuel sources.

It’s not 1950 anymore. Let’s act like it.

The front end is brutally EPIC! Stand out from the German depreciation clones *yawn*

And honestly a 3.5 TT V6 is probably big enough that that car would have adequate power with it naturally aspirated.

That’s the trick to getting real efficiency gains at all out of downsize and turbocharge - only downsize to the point where it’d be merely adequate with that size naturally aspirated engine, then turbocharge to go faster. Don’t go down so far in displacement that it MUST be turbocharged to get out of its own way.

(Mind you, I still think there’s better approaches for both emissions and durability reasons, and Toyota even has some of them. The problem is that the LS needs to keep up with the Joneses on high tech, and being huge, it could use the low end torque of a TT 3.5 instead of a NA 5.0. The more interesting one will be the LS 500h, I suspect, and I wonder if they’ll try to fake a 10-speed automatic with that one, like they did the LC 500h.)

It stands out from the German clones in order to stand in with the soccer mom SUVs, of which there are a lot more of.

The interior looks great though. That steering wheel is perfect. They should have taken the design cues of that steering wheel, and applied it to the rest of the car.

They are saying it has plenty of power; a 4.5 0-60 estimate.

I think the LS500h is going to be amaziballz. Toyota need to work in integrating the electric motors as torque fill on their hybrid cars. Can you imagine how smooth and fast the LS-h could be if they used the electric motors for a more performance oriented feel, rather than just for economy.

I work for a Mercedes dealer now and a Lexus dealer from 06-10, bruh... EVERY type of person drives EVERY type of car. I have enough fuel for stereotype loving enthusiasts to change the “Camry dent” to “ML dent” dent. But stereotype are beyond childish and we are much better auto enthusiasts than that

The current LS has a .cd of .25, I don’t know what more there is to do on that front. This is chasing the style unicorn, pure and simple.

I agree, which is why I didn’t use the old German vs. Japanese stereotypes. My comment compared the brash styling of this LS to the subdued styling of the Land Cruiser which are both made by the same company. You brought up the German vs. Japanese styling. I simply pointed out that they were trading ubiquitous German styling for ubiquitous Toyota styling.

I like the side profile and the rear, but the front looks like it’s trying to contract that gaping sphincter of a grille. I don’t think it’s pretty, but it’s striking and I still like the car overall.

I mean, the LS 600h was already intended to be the V12 alternative... it’s just that between the added weight, and the rev range of the eCVT, low-end performance wasn’t amazing.

The (presumed) LS 500h should have better acceleration at low speed due to more gearing options being available, despite a 3.5 V6 instead of a 5.0 V8 being the ICE.

The question is whether they fake the gears - for the LS, faking gears doesn’t make sense. (For that matter, the entire gearbox doesn’t make sense if they’re going to fake gears in every application.)

If they’re getting 0.25 out of the old rear end shape... there’s still room for improvement.

It’s an improvement over the previous, and Lexus knows how to make an appealing interior, but that face just will never work.

This also stands apart from the German cars. But unlike that new LS’s front end, in a good way (the rest of the LS isn’t so bad, but that front end is utterly horrible).

Century is so awesome car that Japanese don’t want to share any of them to the rest of the world.

Kinja'd!!!

Unlike many other cars, even the press pictures don’t have leather interior. The cloth interior is the way to go. No dead animal bits in gentleman’s Century.

Kinja'd!!!

And does LS come with a cassette deck? No, it does not, but Century sure does. Century owners listen to enka music, so there’s no point of having CDs or other weird things.

Kinja'd!!!

I wish they would share these with us too.

Not bad? NOT BAD? It looks fucking phenomenal. If only they gave it the V8 out of the LC.

Oh well, this is the first time I’ve actually lusted over an LS rather than just going, “Well I guess if you want a luxobarge that doesn’t break...”

Holy hell. That’s probably the best application of the predator grille I’ve ever seen. On a long big-ass luxobarge like that it just... works.
