Kinja'd!!!

These are of pre-production models so fine tuning will be done before the Stinger goes on sale likely towards the end of this Summer. Feel free to ask questions since you know I’ve been reading everything.

Any other engines besides the TT V6?

Why does it look nothing like the Kia Stinger?

Because it is based on the 2011 (?) Kia GT Concept.

Besides the 3.3T V6 Kia is going to debut the revised, longitundal Theta II 2.0T 4cyl engine. Rating is look to be around 252-255 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. There is enough of a gap for the 3.8L V6 to be added down the line. We’ll see what happens!

Do you think people will take it more seriously than the K900 and have better sales?

Do you think it will be better/same/worse than a similar offering from Lexus or Infiniti?

No manual, and looking at the footwell, I don’t think it will happen this generation for the US-spec cars.

Kinja'd!!!

Though the Euro-spec car seems to be hinting at something...

My guess is that RHD models (which can’t be offered with AWD) may be set up to take a manual.

Big time more seriously than the K900, which wasn’t a car meant for the US to begin with, it was simply setup to give Kia something to make all the other models being $40k seem acceptible.

I believe the plan was for 60,000 a year to be sold, which means the US is likely expected to go through 15,000-20,000 a year (so about the same sales as the Genesis Sedan). This car also will introduce the “GT Line” for all of Kia’s lineup, which will consist of revised ride and handling characteristics. This will be very successful for Kia’s image, especially with the NBA crowd.

I definitely think there will be a trim above this (likely called “GT-S”) which will put the car on something wider than the 255s in rear. The Lambda 3.3T uses the smallest turbos in the world and the Tau V8 is a luxury engine, so there is plenty of room for a higher output version of the V6 pushing something closer to 435 hp and 420 lb-ft.

Is it really as slow as they said on the FP? 0-60 in 5.1 for 365 hp is seriously disappointing when magazines are testing the 340i with 320 hp in the upper 4's.

The 5.1 seconds is for the 0-100 kph run which is equal to 0-62 mph. This car will likely be on the high side of 4.9 seconds to 60 mph.

You’ll also need to remember that the German cars use launch control in order to get the 4.4 and 4.5 second numbers and are more around 4.8 seconds without that (still awesome). So it’s exactly where it should be. The extra power just balances out the weight which I expect is 150 lbs heavier than a similar BMW 4-series Gran Coupe.

That I don’t know! I want to guess:

$31,000 for the 2.0T RWD “SX”

$33,500 for 2.0T AWD “SX”

(Some option packages here) “SX-Limited”

$39,500 for 3.3T RWD “GT”

$42,000 for 3.3T AWD “GT”

They are pretty much doing the same thing the Genesis Sedan did with Hyundai. This will probably lead to Kia spinning off a full performance subbrand (think Dodge-SRT or Nissan-Nismo rather than an all new brand like a Nissan-Infiniti). Hyundai with “N Performance” doesn’t make much sense seeing as there aren’t any RWD, V8, or premium vehicles entering the Hyundai lineup now that Genesis exists. I’d be really surprised if “N” wouldn’t need to be the blanket term for the performance team that works across all three brands.

The Stinger is a liftback, so it’s probably that rear hatch getting you. Same way C-Class Coupe, Mustang, and Accord Coupe all look like 2-door coupes.

I was going to consider this if it had a manual. Back to the 4 Gran Coupe now that there isn’t one. If it’s the auto I might as well get the best in the industry, the ZF 8.

Next ATS based on Cadillac Escala’s styling, you’re my only hope.

It’s only going to get better, the Korean brands are all starting to find their brand personalities and sticking to them. What you’re seeing is “definition,” which is what they have been lacking.

Yep, at this point I’d only expect BMW and Cadillac to keep pushing manuals. However you never know with Jaguar and Audi. I still think Porsche is going to have a case for a compact Panamera in another few years, the market is beginning to move up and open up.

Kinja'd!!! "404 - User No Longer Available" (toni-cipriani)

Well XE is an indicator for Jaguar, no sign of a manual there. Audi offers a manual on the A4 but not in Canada. BMW already started restricting manuals to only 40i cars.

I’m still hopeful since they need a proper send off for the supercharged V6 and have the setup ready in the F-Type. I’m hoping the XE S and up get it just before they switch to the straight six. I have hope!

Lack of manual is sad for a car like this but not unexpected. Still very cool to see from Kia.

The thing I don’t understand is, all of the makers are readily offering a manual in Europe already, so it’s not like they aren’t able to put one.

Regulation and crash standards are a bitch I guess, can’t even let willing customers order one.

The hood heat extractors look to be functional and pretty well thought out as well instead of just decorative. They are tunnels taking the heat from just behind the turbos and letting it out towards the back of the engine.

Right now all these factories are having trouble keeping up with demand so they cant afford to miss a sale. When the market slows down but automakers have a ton of capacity is when you usually start seeing more and more options. I’m honestly expecting more manuals to be offered as the market cools down but production stays up.

That’s just the way things are going. The screens will need to be high enough that you can see the road while driving, however that means when the driver sits fairly close to the screen their view of the road becomes obstructed, thus you need to leave empty space behind the screen to allow the driver to see better. The other option is making the screen far away from the driver but that means You can’t reach it while driving which means adding a dial/pad for inputs.

It all comes down to how long your eyes are off the road and the fact that nothing has been standardized with these screen layouts.

It will probably be about as exciting to drive as a lexus. Maybe will have better chassis tuning, but the motor wont have as much character as a lexus v8. It will probably be on par with the infiniti offerings, since the “G” Line has gone soft since it became the qwhatever. The Red sport is probably faster and more fun, but its a small coupe so you cant really compare.

I personally would rather have a Lexus GS for beyond proven reliability, really solid power (467hp), very very slightly less polarizing looks, and guaranteed high quality interior materials. Granted, it was much more expensive new, but a used lexus may still be better than a new Kia, despite how far they have come.

Cadillac solved this in an amazing way. The screen would be down, and show about 1.5-2" vertical, and when you needed the nav, it would pop up. I don’t mind the screen being there when you need it, but all the time? Ugh!
