when those came out, my dad got one just like this:

the first few years you could get them nicely equipped with two-tone paint, decent interior colors and materials, and so on. his had the 1.7 VW engine with the stick shift.

I’m wondering if that thing has the record for most engine vendors in a single car.

The Simca/Talbot Horizon ran the Simca Poissy engine, which was also available in the Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon. It also ran the PSA XUD9 diesel. The Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon also used the VW EA827 engine and the Chrysler K engine.

So, that’s four engine vendors in one car - Simca, PSA, VW, and Chrysler.

Edit: Wait, the XJ Jeep Cherokee beats it. Renault, AMC, GM, VM Motori, and Nissan (for Chinese-market licensed clones).

I want to buy one of these in amazing condition one day and engine swap it with something small and modern. Kind of like a restomod.
