Stupid joke answer, They’re all upside down in ditches.
They seemed to sell until everybody called them a rollover risk, after that they went away. Not sure if maybe cost of insurance had a lot to do with them not being kept around or if the strong economy and cheap gas at the time being more favorable to bigger SUV’s killed them off.

I miss the 1st gen Rav4. Not really powerful compared to new stuff, but rock solid reliability from the 3sfe and ridiculously easy to work on.
I don’t like 4 door anything. Being 6'2", the b pillar tends to be a nuisance. My 01 ZX3 (2 dr hatchback) focus feels roomier than my 06 crown vic did, thanks to longer doors and a further back b pillar

I think the standard answer is “by the wayside.”
They were too small, underpowered, and too tippy. Why get one of these when you could get a much more capable Wrangler?

It’s basically just a Tracker with functionality removed. The latter was an excellent little truck (and yes, it’s a truck - has a ladder frame and everything). My brother had one that my Uncle bought new. Went to about 300k of serious abuse with hardly any maintenance. What finally killed it was a crossmember that rusted out and would have been covered under a recall if the car was still up north, but no longer applies once the car was in the south :( Gave it to our mechanic for practically nothing, he welded in a new crossmember, and now it’s his hunting buggy.
