Kinja'd!!!

I know Doug beat to death the car max warranty experience but I feel like a few things have changed since then and they’ve become a little stricter so a few questions:

Brother bought the above car, brakes squeak and battery probably needs replacing. Can he threaten to return it within the free-return period if these issues are not fixed? Carmax doesn’t haggle on price but existing issue s seem fair.

He opted for the $500 deductible, what amounts to 25k warranty. Anyone have experience with BMW/carmax replacing everything that could be an issue without a hassle? With the high deductible he would be looking to do these repairs in large groups.

Thanks guys!

Neither brake pads, rotors, nor batteries are covered by the carmax warranty. He might be able to get the battery dealt with, but if the pads are not worn down and are just squeaky, I dunno if they’d do anything for that. If the pads are actually worn down I would have thought that would be replaced pre-purchase.

Batteries are like $150...squeaky brakes aren’t an issue as long as they’re working properly.

Deal with it? Yeah, that.

How long has he owned it? If he is within 30 days they’ll fix damned near anything. My brakes shuddered, they ended up replacing all the pads, rotors and one caliper.

Yes but the goal is to see what can be fixed by carmax for free at this point, part of their price is getting issue free vehicles.

Hoping for the battery. He’s bringing it to the dealer for the takataairbag replacement, we’ll see what else they find.

Doesn’t hurt to see if they’ll do anything since it’s been less than week. Those items are considered consumables/wear items and won’t be covered under their extended warranty. They might decide to “good will” it since it’s only been 2 days. It’s worth it to them to lose a couple hundred dollars to secure a repeat buyer, especially one that buys the warranty.
