Just got off the phone with an old friend from university who is pricing out a Minivan. Well, his dad gets 30% off of all new Citroens through his hunting club (don’t ask, I dunno why). At 30% off, you don’t ask, so a Citroen it is! The C5 Tourer would be his dream choice, but they are priced higher.
They had a bit of rough luck with a used Fiesta once, so I can understand that they prefer new or CPO. This is supposed to replace a MK IV Golf that is slowly dying.
They have a toddler and their other car is a new-ish Fabia Combi with which they CAN actually move all the stuff those mini-humans need. They came by this summer, and that car was FULL. As in, they had used All of the interiour space completely.
Oh, and his wife insists that it be a manual! (She got rear ended in an automatic while pressing the “clutch”.)
OK. He is buying a vehicle of a class that many car afficionados despise, With a diesel engine and a manual gearbox. I just can’t find anything to scold him for.

I hired (actually was upgraded to) the previous model with a 2.2 diesel and six speed conventional automatic once. I was quite impressed by it.
On the other hand my brother hired the current model in Italy last year and found all the electronics and TFT instruments a bit much. It was the kind of car that you spend as much time learning how to drive as actually driving it.

I believe the ‘man card’, is something manual, V8, RWD and large engine (with LS in the name somewhere) with low mpg.
Personally I don’t subscribe to it.
If people don’t like what I drive, I don’t care, I paid for it, not them.

I don’t see anything terribly bad in C4 Grand Picasso, but I seriously hate diesel engines (2-stroke ones are ok though). Please suggest a petrol engine instead.

As far as minivans go, the Grand C4 Pic is gorgeous .
Petite, well sculpted, and great attention to detail. You don’t have to deal with our fugly American vans.
Besides, even Clarkson likes it. Not as much as the Zafira, but hey, 30% off!

If only we could get French brands here in US America. Sure, in Europe it’s not going to be noticed, but here it’d be a shitshow. And if you have kid(s) and need a minivan-ish thing, am I going to judge you? Sister (3 kids) had a Chrysler Town & Country, which a car guy would automatically hate, but then I took care of the kids for 5 days, and I realized the genius of that vehicle. Seats that keep them from keeping me from driving, and screens that keep them occupied.
