When people were rating all their cars I was like “fuck, that’s gonna be a lot of work...” But then some people just started doing top 5, I can do that!
1) 2014 Fiesta ST: They Hype Is Real.
2) 1992 Alfa Romeo 164-S: What a great car that was. When we parted ways it had over 400K miles on it. It never let me down, it was fast, it was comfortable, it required obscenely frequent timing belt and front suspension bushing replacement, but it always started, it was great in the snow, and that sound.... God I miss that sound....
3) 1982 Volvo 242 Racecar: I only had this thing for a little while, but it was fully done up... twin Weber 45DCOEs, big valves, hot cam, hi-comp pistons, light rods, light flywheel, racing clutch, fully adjustable suspension, no interior but seats and dashboard, 3" exhaust with only a resonator, roll cage, Toyo Proxes RA-1s on two piece BBS wheels... no radio. it was loud, it was rough, it was rusty, It had about 240 NA HP at 8000 RPM, it sounded and drove like an 80's rally car. SNARRRRRRRLLLLLLGRARRRRRRwwwwwaaaAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGRRHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! POP POP SHREASHNARRLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! BAM GROWEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!! It was fast. It was uncomfortable, it got TERRIBLE fuel economy, it was hard to start, did I mention it was rusty? And then it inhaled one of the air cleaner nuts in to the #3 cylinder and I sold it to a guy who promised he would fix it up. It was fun while it lasted though, HUGE fun.
4) 2011 Hyundai Elantra Touring: reliable, comfortable, spacious, and with a few small suspension mods it embarrassed WRX’s at autocross all day long. Making Subie Bros boil with anger in a cheap Korean station wagon was a lot of fun. It was also just a damn good, well executed car. Well done, Hyundai.
5) This one is tougher, the 1998 Volvo faux v70R AWD (it was a regular V70AWD with the boost turned up) was in contention here because of AWD donuts, the amazing seats, and 13.5-sec 1/4 mile (that’s the same as a 2016 Golf R, just for reference), but it was unreliable, thirsty, and expensive to keep on the road, so the last spot goes to the 1989 Mazda Protege LX. Just a great little car. I put over 300K on it. It was reliable, fun, efficient, and just what I needed as a first car. I still miss the feel of those non-ABS 4-wheel disc brakes and perfectly weighted power steering. It would never be as fast as the FieSTa, but it was such an organic, telepathic little thing to fling around on the back roads at 9.5/10ths all day long. I hear the Miata is still like this, but the New 3 feels numb and dead compared to that great little econobox.

I had to read that a few times. Did you say 400K on an Alfa? Did you get a medal or reward from Alfa for hitting 400K? Good Lord!

Yup. 400K miles. You can get the mileage medallions from Alfa Romeo, but only if you are a dues-paying Owner’s Club member. I never was.
