7. 1995 Honda del Sol Si
My first car. Fun to drive and the targa was cool.
6. 1993/1994 Toyota Land Cruiser (tie)
I’ve had two of these FZJ80s, both same spec dark green exterior, grey interior, and factory lockers. I had the 1993 as a daily driver while in college and the 6mpg in the city got old pretty fast. The 1994 (pictured) is my winter beater now.
5. 2006 MINI Cooper S
Super fun to drive, though unfortunately mine was an automatic. I didn’t experience a lot of the reliability problems that are reported with R53s, but that’s probably due to it being a 2006. Want to buy another R53 in the future and do something fun with.
4. 2004 Porsche Carrera
My first foray into the Porsche world. I was really wanting a 997 S or a 996 turbo, but after test driving the regular 996 I figured it would be enough for me to start with. Fears of IMS blowing and wanting a more modern interior led me to trade it in.
3. 2009 BMW 335d
425 lbft of torque and I average 35 mpg. If I’m doing an all interstate trip, I can set the cruise at 80mph and get close to 40mpg with 600 miles of range. Did have some issues with carbon buildup while it was under warranty and I’m closing in on 100,000 miles so I’m a bit scared that parts are going to start failing and have toyed with the idea of trading it in on something, but I can’t find a better daily driver.
2. 1962 Austin Healey Sprite MKII
Stupid amount of fun to drive and gets everybody smiling. Has been extremely reliable for me. Did have a mishap where the hood came unlatched, flew up and broke the windshield while my brother-in-law was driving. I’ve “repaired” that with a yellow Midget hood and Brooklands screens for now. I also added some hood straps and driving lamps, and removed the bumpers to give it the racer/rally look.
1. 2007 Porsche Carrera 4S Cabriolet
The 997 is ten times the car the 996 is. Its just an amazing car. I do wish it held golf clubs a bit more easily, though the backseat area isn’t a bad place for them with the convertible top down. I currently have the hardtop on and Pirelli Sottozero tires mounted and it does amazing in the snow. Right now is a great time to buy a 997, I’ve seen some pushing below $30k.

Porsche in the snow. You sir, have my respect. You’ve had lots of cool cars.
That diesel BMW sounds like an interesting drive. We rented a diesel Audi wagon last summer when we were in Europe, but it sure didn’t have 425 foot pounds of torque!

Mine didn’t actually leak that much, only when it heavily rained. I also made sure to never shut doors by the frame-less windows. Half the cars on my list have leaked (FJZ80 sunroof drain clogged, MINI’s sunroof drain piping would come undone and leak, the 997 soft top will leak in a hard rain too), so my tolerance for a leaking might be higher than others.
