8. 1983 Honda CM450A Hondamatic
Not a car, so automatically did a bad job of being one.
7. 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis
Decent car, gave me no trouble, but noticeably choppier ride than what I had been used to, and, let’s face it, Panthers were pretty ordinary.
6. 1991 Volvo 940 Turbo
Surprisingly fun to drive, decent handling, reliable. I probably would have enjoyed it more if the interior on my example hadn’t bleached white and started turning to dust.
5. 2013 Ford Mustang
Good value for money, mechanically reliable and reasonably practical as an everyday car. However, the interior materials were clearly a half generation old when new and the aluminum oxidation issues on a 2 year old car were pretty annoying.
4. 1984 Lincoln Town Car
An authentic little old lady car purchased from an authentic little old lady. I just love the floaty ride, plush velour, and how anachronistic it is. Built in the 1980s, but there’s not much on there that would have seemed too wild to someone time traveling from the ‘50s. It still has a metal dashboard, for crissakes.
3. 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle
My first car, still miss it. Aircooled VWs are a tremendous amount of fun, will probably buy another some day.
2. 2016 Dodge Challenger
I would have bought a Cordoba if they were still made, but this does the job. Rides like a big American barge. So far, much more pleasant to live with day to day than the Mustang - more composed over broken pavement, usably sized trunk opening, fuel economy is actually better despite the same size engine pulling around a much larger and heavier car. It’s old and a bit of a pig, but it does the job.
1. 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood
My favorite out of everything I’ve owned, even though it was objectively pretty terrible. I was able to enjoy it for a few years before everything started failing (LCD dash, turn signal relays, valve cover gaskets, exhaust brackets, radiator, window regulators, transmission, air suspension, random trim pieces falling off, etc). Still the most comfortable car I have ever driven, miles ahead of the Panthers in terms of ride quality and interior room, just nowhere near as durable. Once I left college, it didn’t last too long - just couldn’t stand up to the kind of mileage my job required.

Box Panther Lincolns most definitely had plastic dashes... even the glove box was covered in malaise-era padded vinyl that warped the first time it came in contact with sunlight.

I’ve taken it apart several times, all the faux woodgrain parts are thin sheet metal with a decal.
