Kinja'd!!!

Its my first crapstang Mustang, be gentle. I’m just using the engine and trans. I’ll be selling the rest eventually. If anyone wants any 1996 SN-95 parts aside from the engine, trans and wiring/PCM (wing, drivers mirror and wheels sold) hit me up in April. I wont have it on property till then.

Kinja'd!!!

It had a prior engagement with a pole.

What are you going to use the drivetrain in? any boost plans, or GT40 heads to up the output?

Agreed. I hear the front clip was garish at best.

Here’s the crazy part, its a 3.8 single port. Imma build that sumbitch up to around 275 - 300 horse NA. looking to make a Thunderbird handle like a Miata. Fun Fact! Naturally aspiriated (NA) 3.8 V6 MN-12 (1989-1997) Thunderbirds have an almost 50/50 weight distribution when a 65 series battery is relocated to the trunk. add that to the V6's lighter weight and lower center of gravity and relative position in the chassis and you have a recipe for quite the fun car.

Im thinking 275 Horse to make it still streetable and not too raucous. I want a good mid-high rpm car that will still cruise. im not looking for all out drag racing speed, just suprisingly fast.

Yeah that’s a crazy part. Especially N/A. Knew a mod years ago on RiceorNot who tracked his supercharged new edge 3.8 Stang.

Good luck.

on the plus side, that rear gives you a nice picnic table everywhere you go. It even had generous shelf space above.

My old 1996 T-bird (4.6, stock) was 58% front, 42% rear. (per certified truck scale) Amazing to think that the smaller engine and battery relocation would make such a drastic difference.

the OHV vs OHC is the main difference. lots of extra metal there when you factor in the extra cylinders. The Essex terminates just ahead of the front axle by just a few inches bringing the weight closer to the center of the car. The Modular sits in the same place for the back 6 cylinders but theres more overhang from the front axle because of those 2 pesky cylinders. plus who can argue with 28MPG HWY with a 5MT Essex?

Y’know I totally forgot about the transmission! That’s another important factor.

Yeah, my ’Bird was an automatic, as was the ’94 V6 Cougar that I had before it. But I never did take the Cougar to the scale. Both cars were stock-ish (no mods that would affect weight, anyway). I always liked how much roomier the V6 engine compartment was, but I couldn’t feel an appreciable weight difference between the two cars while driving (just the power difference :)). The NA 3.8 is supposedly only 36 pounds lighter than the 4.6.

Interesting choice with the V6, check out SN95forums.com, this is one of the Mods car over there, supercharged v6.
