Here in VA we are about to get our first snow of the season and I can’t wait! Pic is from last year, but now that the snow tires are on and the weather is coming in I’m just so excited to go drive in it!

I’m so terrified of bringing mine up to New York. The rust monster bit hard on it, so I know that it’s going to get killed by winter if the chassis even lasts that long.

Case of undercoat spray and an afternoon of liberal application? But seriously yeah if winters were as harsh here, it would probably not be driven. But with only two or three accumulating snowfalls here every year, I don’t mind it too much.

The big problem for me was when it was at the shop getting a blacktop. The rear quarter window started leaking, this soaked the inside of the rear quarter panel, it rusted so badly that a hole formed on either side of the base of the window and then any water running down the window went through that into the rocker panel. Got it back with my rocker panel completely eaten through. It’s pretty much fucked at the point where it was supposed to be done, which is tragic. I’m thinking about finding a non-running example that’s clean to put all of my good bits in to (because literally the entire car is new apart from the chassis at this point), or finding another clean runner, keeping it clean, and stripping Charlie for spares and upgrades.

That’s probably the best option at this point.

Forgot to take a picture of before, but this is during the bondo process. The rocker panels were solid when it went in. Those are holes I’m filling, not ugly corroded surface metal I’m trying to smooth over. The big one goes almost all of the way through to the footwell.

I’ve never driven my 5th gen in the snow, but that’ll change tomorrow. It’s seen snow in years past, though...it lived in places like Michigan and Illinois before I bought it from a guy who had moved here from northern West Virginia.
