Apparently he had a bad stutter. He turned his stutter into scatting. I also had a bad stutter when I was a kid. It’s gotten better now, but I still have it. At the risk of sounding pretentious, this song speaks to me and I love it.

I stuttered as a kid too. Still do every once in a while when my brain moves faster than my mouth.
I need to check with Mrs McMike because I can’t remember the last time I heard myself do it. Maybe it’s more often than I think.

We all have our short comings; I remember back in 8th grade we had to take some aptitude tests to determine what levels our skills were at. My reading, match, science were all at high school levels, except for spelling. In 8th grade my spelling skills were apparently on par for a 4th grader.

I’ve a ChemE and my math skills were always above average. I still can’t spell, I’ve just memorized how to spell a lot of words.

In middle school, my friend’s brother, with whom we played Halo 3 together, couldn’t spell if his life depended on it. A little weird considering he had a very strong vocabulary.

It takes me more than a couple of alcoholic beverages to start stuttering, fortunately. Ontopic: When Scatman was in our hitparades, I really liked the song. I then found out about the stutter the dude has and was seriously impressed with what he has done. Thanks for reminding me!
