first was a call I got a call from Enterprise ( think that’s who it was). My former-step-sister-in-law (mother in law’s x-husbands daughter) rented a car from Logan airport and has not returned. I think he said the car is 2 weeks over due. I don’t know how they managed my cell number but I havn’t seen or talked ot her in a few years so I was no help. I was considering asking them if they thought what she did was a favor, considering it was a Cruze, but I decided to leave the jokes out of it.
second call, the good call, was from a builder who had been referred to me to design a house. This will be my first house on my own so I’m pretty excited. 2400 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 2 car garage in the basement. Its going to be a basic rectangle but I thought it might be cool to make it look like a refurbished barn.

Digging the barn idea. Second floor should have a room that opens up like a hay loft with screen windows in the summer.
Bonus points for two story slide, or an old school pulley type engine crane/hoist just above the garage.

Rental car companies can be real idiots. I had one call my phone several times over some random person’s rental that was overdue. I dont’ know how they picked my number, unless the guy renting wrote down some random number on his paperwork that just happened to me mine. They eventually left some nasty messages on my voicemail about having to contact the police, despite my name (which is presented in my voicemail greeting) being completely different than the guy for whom they were looking.
I was considering asking
them if they thought what she did was a favor, considering it was a
Cruze, but I decided to leave the jokes out of it.
If rental car companies insist on offering only terrible cars, they deserve whatever sass you give them over it :)

We had a lady in our area giving out our phone number instead of her own. We discovered this when people started calling demanding payments for credit cards, her storage unit, etc. It got so bad that I changed the message on our phone: “Hello, if you are trying to reach Ms. King, you should know that she has been giving this number out as her own, but it is not. This number has been mine for over five years and I am neither related to nor have any idea how to reach Ms. King. Please update your records and remove this number.”
It didn’t work. We still get calls for Ms. King.

I think mostly states adjacent to Mexico and companies with strict mileage limits. I think some states decided that was a privacy violation (even though Google is probably tracking the renters anyway).

It amazes to me how desperate they were they’d try to track down anyone remotely connected to the original person. I would have expected after a few unreturned calls, they’d just go straight for contacting the police.

Some people really can’t understand the concept of “wrong number”.
Many years ago when I still had a land line, the number I had apparently was popular for some reason and I got tons of wrong numbers from all kinds of people. Most folks understood when they asked for so-and-so and I said they had the wrong number.
One crazy lady didn’t believe me. I don’t know if she thought I had the person she wanted tied up in the basement or something, but she insisted she had the right number and that therefore I should be the person for whom she was looking. She even went so far as to ask *me* why this person gave her my number. Like I would know! What was really crazy, is after getting her off the phone, she called back an hour later, and went through the whole thing again. Perhaps she thought in that hour that I’d move out and her intended recipient would move in.
It just occurred to me that perhaps the person she was trying to reach had intentionally given her a wrong number because she was so crazy and they wanted to get her out of their life.

About a decade ago I had a land line that had previously been assigned to some deadbeat. I don’t remember her name anymore. About a year into getting constant collection calls for that deadbeat, I was at Sears buying a toolbox. When I gave that number, they asked me if I was associated with her, and the clerk spun the screen around. They had another number for her. I wrote it down, and began giving it out to all the collection agents. It must’ve been real, because after a month or two of that, they stopped calling me.
