Excellent news! The Tercel is now leaking oil in a manner similar to Exxon Valdez. Rate of loss is observable. No more driving this baby... Time to park it. Might just do a 4A swap for, uh... [consults urbandictionary.com]... “mad gainz, yo.”
I’m not at all upset. This is this is pretty much how Tercel ownership is. Even the best one you can find is still a 32 year old car at the end of the day.

It’s way too thick for new oil. Now the pickup leaks a good amount but mechanically it’s been as dependable as an old pair of underwear for five years so I don’t worry about that one.

The Tercel is FWD. Infact I think it was Toyotas first FWD car, in the US anyway.

His is 4wd. It has a bespoke transmission/transfer case to make it work and the bell-housing pattern is different on A engines than Z engines. Trust me, I’m a fan of 2ZZs, but that’s not the way to go here. Silvertop 4AGE is because it’s cheaper than a Blacktop, bolts up to the transmission, and A engine swaps to Blacktops and Silvertops are well supported and documented.
