Kinja'd!!!

One to four inches of snow is predicted to come to the Atlanta area this weekend. Seeing as what happened last time there was about 1/10th of an inch of snow, I imagine this is going to be some sort of snowpocalypse.

Kinja'd!!!

If any of y’all are down there, good luck and may your day be filled with many snownuts. Hopefully the city has more than one plow this time.

I realize folks are down there are hardly prepared or experienced, but it’s still ridiculous to think about it. Up here four inches would be what we call Friday.

I fully expect some immature person to type “That’s what she said” as a response to your post, but I refuse to stoop to that level just for cheap laughs.

Oh, wait a minute... :D

It’s supposed to rain all day Friday then the temperature is going to drop a ton Friday night. I’m hoping they are overplaying it. Don’t want a repeat of 2014.

Hampton Roads VA is expected 1-9 inches saturday morning. Im being called in for OT coverage however our equipment isnt really weather impacted. It will essentially be me on the project, multiple highways and an overly ambitious Ford Escape.

But What you’re referring to was a literal blizzard, albeit a small one, and something like 10" in one day, half of it before rush hour. It would have caused problems anywhere, but we don’t have snow plows. Like at all. So, really, it’s not an issue of freaking out over nothing.

Highway 280 is in Birmingham, but who’s counting.

I have all the toilet paper I can eat stocked for the weekend.

In 2014 when ATL embarrassed ourselves on a national basis, here’s the rest of the story:

Around noon light to moderate snow started, and gauging the amount everyone thought, “Leave now and I can make it [home or wherever] but wait too long and I’ll be hosed at this rate.”

So...no sooner had all these hundreds of 1000's of people hit the roads and the snow stopped.

After about 1/2-1 inch.

The snow stopped *because* it changed to freezing rain and, nearly instantly, 1/2" of snow was covered with 1/2-1" of ice. All these ppl were trying to drive on roads you couldn’t walk or really even stand on. Even salt trucks and first responders couldnt get out, partly because ice and partly because 1000's of stuck stranded vehicles everywhere.

So that’s how Atlanta totally stopped after 1" of snow

Exactly. We’re supposed to get 1-3 inches here in NJ, and if we didn’t have salt or plows I bet there 10x as many accidents as in the South, given the quality of the roads here and the maniacs that inhabit them.

Seriously, I must see a wreck a day in the best of conditions, and in the rain let alone the snow you can barely see the dividing lines on I-295.

4" of snow creates Armageddon in Seattle, too. Good luck.

In that same weather report I screen shotted, it said to “be prepared to stay home for 3 days”. That made me chuckle since I have never seen that before, even when 2-3 feet is predicted to fall.

Well yeah, it was definitely bad. And I dont really blame the people of Atlanta for it. If anything I just feel bad for the people with non-flexible work schedules who are required to work, regardless of the end of the world going on outside.

Oh I know that, it is just a bit of tongue-in-cheek jabbing. I hope people prepared at least a little bit this time. Like having warm clothes in the car and something other than heels to walk in. Maybe tires that arent summer tires and have some tread on them too. Or even better, staying home altogether! But it sucks for the people who do not have that option.

That weather map looks like a very surprised frog getting hit in the neck with an adult entertainment device.

I have nothing else constructive to add.
