I love driving in north ontario. Most roads are twisty or have big long curves. Also there is not much traffic. Passing on curves with hills just scares me.

So do I, especially between Kenora and Dryden.

Curved the other way, or with a hill instead of a valley, I’m with you. But a valley with an “S” in that direction (As opposed to a “Z” bend, I guess) gives a great view. Better than a straight, actually, because there’s more distance to be covered in the area you can see.

But those dirt road pics? Those I’m with you on. It was a great drive, but you can’t help being a little nervous... many blind corners, slidy surface, and neither you nor the OTHER TRAFFIC is actually anticipating any other traffic, so you tend to use more of the road than you would normally. Not that the road was particularly narrow, but it’s how you use it. In 2 hours I saw 4 vehicles, and 2 of those were travelling together. You just don’t expect to see another car at all.

I love the 631 that connnects hwy 11 & hwy 17. It’s 167kms of bliss.

We came back on HWY 11. I was thinking about that one (It’s the one that connects in White River correct?) but we ended up just 11->655->101->144->17.

I’d love to try it, but it’s just as well we didn’t bother... It would have been slower and we were in Longlac at the last stages of dusk anyway, so it’s not like we would have seen anything.

Fwiw though, 144 is also awesome.

Just gas up before you get on if you are getting low, it’s very isolated. There is an Esso in Hornepayne about half way though the road. You throw a dart at map of north ontario, it land on a good road. There are lots of them.

I managed McKerrow to White River just as the light went on, so no worries there. Iirc there’s one fuel stop, but it’s out of the way a bit in Chapleau. On the way back it was Nipigon to Hearst... White River-Hearst ain’t no problem.

Which isn’t to say that’s bad advice. It would be stupid not to think ahead on fuel up there. I happened to plan my fuel stops in advance, so I bypassed a lot of stations.

to hell with the double yellow

I remember reading somewhere that that’s actually a valid thing to do in some areas... I can’t for the life of me remember where, or what the conditions were, though.

I know that here in Ontario, it’s not a law but rather a suggestion. At least so I was told.

That said, it’s one of the few road markings the MTO gets right more often than not.

I didn’t know they had dash cams that exported GIFs

Sorry, I was being sarcastic.

Why not upload to YouTube and allow YouTube to buffer the frames instead of forcing everyone’s device to?

You posted over 100MB (737 separate images) of GIFs that everyone’s device needs to download before watching.

Even with a 100mbps connection, I had to wait a while for them all to cache on my machine. I can’t imagine how long it took for folks that have slower speeds.

Just think about it.

You should call the GIF police.

But that would mean losing your Internet connection.

Lord help anyone with dialup. They would still be waiting for those to cache

I don’t YouTube and don’t intend to start, that’s the gist of it. I could use lower res, but a lot of these were already uploaded to earlier posts so I just linked them in.

But yeah I get where you’re coming from.
