Kinja'd!!!

This Fiat Fullback is a rebadged Mitsubishi L200. Fiat now sells: a rebadged Mitsubishi truck, a rebadged Mazda MX-5, a rebadged Renault Trafic, a rebadged Dodge Journey, a rebadged Dodge Dart, a rebadged PSA van, a van shared with Opel, a smaller jointly-developed PSA van, about 753 versions of the 500 and Panda (some of which are also Jeep Renegades), and some old things that have been around forever.

So all we need to do to create oppo motors is to sell rebadged, and stripped, BR-Zs and Miatas with 15% markup for the “added” lightness and we could be a major “manufacturer?”

Let’s do it!!!

Isn’t the Dart a rebadged Fiat, also the van the other way around?

It’s not a rebadged anything, it’s an enlarged platform-mate of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

The Fiat Viaggio is a rebadged Dart for China, and the Fiat Ottimo is a Dart hatchback for China.

You forgot the Fiat Punto which has been on sale since 2006 that shares its platform with the Opel Corsa. Which by the way also uses the platform and some engines but had a major redesign in 2012.

Yeah, there isn’t much there there for Fiat, is there?

Also, Lancia is down to just one model, a variant of the Panda/500.

Chrysler is down to the Pacifica and the 13 year-old partly Benz-based 300.

Dodge is down to the 9 year-old Journey, 12 year-old partly Benz-based Charger, 10 year-old partly Benz-based Challenger, 10 year-old outgoing Grand Caravan, and the 7 year-old partly Benz-based Durango.

Ram’s got 2 rebadged Fiat vans and a 9 year-old core product.

Jeep has 3 rebodied Fiats, a rebodied Benz, a rebodied Mitsubishi, and is about to replace their 11 year-old core product.

To further complicate things, Fiat used to make the Ford Ka.

The Tipo looks like a good car, but it’s so bland compared to the Bravo it replaces.

Like bhtooefr said I was hinting at the Viaggio, but overall it is something of a BMW 3 series sedan begets 4 series coupe begets 4 series sedan situation.

I had Punto filed to “old things that have been around forever” but totally forgot it shares a platform with the Opel. I remember seeing a bunch of them in Germany when I was there for a meeting in 2010 and thinking they were starting to look dated then and could hardly believe when I went to Fiat’s website to get more information on this Fullback and saw it was still on sale.

I had forgotten all about that. The new Ka is more Fiesta related than Fiat right?

It does look good but uncharaterically bland for an Italian car (though the Punto is pretty bland I guess). I don’t know much about them yet. For their sake hopefully it turns out to be a good car.

They’re collecting dust on dealer lots here. You could get a smoking deal for one but nobody buys them anyways and I can fully understand that. It’s beyond outdated, basically a zombie. I just don’t know if Fiat is actually trying anymore. The new Fiat Tipo is quite promising though.

It’s funny that FIAT has a completely different, full car line-up on South America. I guess the world “global” hasn’t reached Sergio’s ear. Also, some cars that are China exclusive and good cars like the Tipo family are exclusive to Europe & Turkey

Similar thing is going on with Mitsubishi in the US. Lancer has been on sale for 10 years and they don’t move many of them. You can get a great deal on one, but people seem to be wise to it. Meanwhile over at Jeep, the 10 year old Patriot and Compss share a platform with the Lancer and people still buy them for some reason (mainly that they are cheap and have a Jeep badge on it them still has some cachet here). In fact, I heard a rumor a couple years ago that the roadmap had them scheduled to be killed off on 2013, but they kept them around because they were still selling and cobbled together a new generation Compass to keep it going. And that new Compass shares a platform with the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X which is a modified version of the Fiat Small Wide platform introduced with the 2005 Punto - see we’ve gone full circle!

Yep the Strada is the only one I really knew about in South Americabefore your post. I think they have a bunch of unique engines down there too running ethanol that is cheap in Brazil. Interestingly the Strada has been rebadged the Ram 700 in Mexico due the pull the Ram brand has there, but there are no plans that I know of to sell it in the US.

The new Ka is 100% Ford. It’s on the brand’s Global B platform and shares it’s underpinnings with the Fiesta

Yep, a bunch of exclusives engines too. The Uno and the Mobi (the blue and white superminis) just introduced a new family of 3 cylinder engines, names Firefly.

There are plans I think to sell the bigger Toro (red truck) in the US, since it’s basically the brand new Compass truck, also being a bigger Renegade/500X truck

From what I’ve seen the Tipo family is getting solids 6, 7 out of 10. It’s a good Golf rival if you can’t afford a Golf. Kinda like the Nissan Pulsar and like a slight bigger, Italian Dacia Sandero/Logan

Holy crap I didn’t know the FCA crossovers sit on the Punto platform. Kinda ironic considering the Punto isn’t selling anymore while the Renegade and 500X move in quite good numbers in Europe. Maybe Mitsubishi could utilize a FCA platform in exchange for the Fullback/L200. It’s probably too late for Mitsu anyways, unfortunately.

Speaking of the Compass and Patriot, I have kind of a unhealthy hatred for them, even though I’ve never spent much time in either. But those maybe ~2 hours in the backseat in the Patriot were enough for me to develop hate.

Yes, no Fiat involvement. It didn’t make sense for Ford to share whatever money is made on the Ka with another maker.
