That car actually makes me want a Civic really badly

That car makes me want to do things to mine, naughty things. Like when you come home to your wife after being at the strip club all night.

When they look nice they look real nice. They either look really bad or really good there is no middle ground.

It’s a Civic. They all look like a compact economy car, which is what an EK Civic is.

Those are good wheels for a dark EJ.

This is an EJ, since it’s a coupe. Even most “EK” hatches in North America are EJs.

I know, I’m a NEEEEEEERD.

Whoa there cowboy, no need to get touchy. Just wondering if you’re seeing something different other than a good affordable small family car.

It’s what I do ‘round these parts. I can also always answer the eternal question:

“Dude, does this fit on my Honda?” The answer is usually yes, followed by “Well, we’ll make it fit!”

..I just can’t do Hondas.

Well, I mean, yeah, it’s a Civic, but considering the video starts pretty early on with a graphic that says “Smiles per gallon”, I think it’s pretty clear that the audience here is bargain minded folks cheaply wringing the most out of a cheap starting point. Not necessarily winning events or shows, but “what can I do with the cheap starting point I can afford”? So, when you come in with “yeah, it’s a compact economy car” and whatshisnuts going “whaaa?” the people who might enjoy this video could see it as all of the ‘real car people’ coming in to bash them doing what they can with what they have.

I don’t think I’ll ever be into the tuner Civic scene, but not going to criticize the people that are, unless they act like they’re making world beaters. I didn’t watch the whole video, but if they start with “smiles per gallon”, they probably know what they are.

Tuuuuuuuurbo-Yooooooda!

I do Hondas and BMWs. I owned a Ford Escort ZX2 for about two minutes before it was front-ended by a con artist trying to fake a rear-ending, and then I drove it into a ditch. The only cars I’ve actually really cared about that I’ve purchased with my own money have been my EJ6 Hatch which I still refer to as “The EK” even though it’s not, so people know to what I refer, my E46, and my current GA3.

If you’re curious about my entire car experience, including my parents’ cars and company cars, there’s this post:

Hmm you make a lot of sense. I didn’t know my comment might come off snobbish. It’s just that I think for the price of a Civic, you can get much more fun cars. I understand the whole trying to have fun with what you got mentality, but maybe there’s a slight bit too much drooling and fawning...so much that the OP actually got really defensive over my state of amusement.

None of us have to be ‘real’ car people to understand what a Civic is. Let’s be real, for the price of a Civic and those Enkei wheels, and that fart can, you could pick from an endless list of actually fun cars that are also “smiles per gallon”.

I really only like about 8 years of Civics. I like them because they are simple, well engineered, and look good even though they are an economy car. They are pretty easy to work on, so maintenance and repair are enjoyment vs. frustration. Mine is stock except for wheels and I enjoy the manual steering. They just seemed to pull the good stuff from more expensive cars: the way the shifter feels, the clutch feel, the steering feel. The little stuff that makes a car fun to drive, they are prime example of slow car fast fun.

would look much better with a lower offset rpf1 which has more flat spokes of course being FWD probably can’t run them like a miata can.

Without a doubt...zero question on that from me. Again, like I said, I don’t think I will ever be into the Civic tuner scene, but there is a segment of folks that buy a Honda because it ‘won’t break down’ and they don’t have a lot of experience working on cars or they have a Civic because it’s what their parents bought them, but they might become real wrenchers after the starting point of slapping on some sweet whuuls and later fixing what breaks when...heh, to be honest, they’re doing dumb stuff we probably all did in other cars at some point. Or heck, there’s a lot of reasons to buy a Civic: Like the gas mileage, don’t want a convertible (Miata), Don’t want a euro repair bill, etc.

And yes, there are folks who take their Civics too seriously, as if they’re a secret Supra beater...but hell, there are the same folks for every model, I DD an ‘05 rental spec Focus, and I know there were folks out there who hoped they were the next tuner frontier, and I can’t fathom the idea of paying the price for a ST or RS version, there’s a lot of other cars I’d buy for that money, but if it works for you, good on ya, as long as you’re not obnoxious about it.

Rambling, I guess, insert Rodney King “can’t we all get along” gif here. ;-)

I guess I really didn’t understand what you were saying. It’s like you stated some supporting facts for a bigger point, but not the bigger point.

These cars were new when I was in my early 20's. I always thought they looked nice. I was too busy with a 280z and air-cooled VW’s, and I was poor so I couldn’t afford a new car. I happened upon the one I have through a friend’s family member selling it. I bought it because it was in near perfect condition despite being 20 years old and having 240k miles. It had full service history and was a good price, so I bought it. I always wanted one and had experience working on a friends a few times. After owning it for a while I can see what all the fuss is about. Terrific driving experience for an economy car. It is very direct and responds to all your inputs. It’s more fun than my friend’s GTI.

Well there are two offsets available in my size +35 and +41 and I want to run 205/50/R15s so I may have to stick with the 41's.

I stated supporting points for both “yo, Civics rule, man” and “they’re an economy car” in various posts because my overall point is that we should be able to have differing opinions without being disagreeable.
