In all fairness it depends on when... Mazdas from 1998 were absolutely awful, but anything before that and from 2008-2009 does not have much rust problem at all.

you need to move to a place where rust isn’t an issue then.

maybe.

Seems like a big investment for a Mazda.

Yeah, what kind of FOOL would by vehicles that have a reputation for rusting? Haha... ha... Oh.

All cars. Doctors here in Texas don’t even know what Tetanus is.

That might be our education system’s fault though :/

Or maybe mazda could build their fucking cars right.

signed - someone salty that the mazdaspeed proteges are literally turning into dust.

But seriously, mazda should’ve used better steel and paint and they know it and deserve the flak they take for it.

The high volume Mazdas have been very reliable though, haven’t they? It was only the 2.3T that was a basket case.

Rust isn’t an issue on the newer ones either.

I have 2 and I live in the GTA.

I’ve never seen one that bad in person where I live in New England, but I’ve seen several around here with rust around the 3rd’ brake light. I do like mazdas in general and hope they improved the new ones

I’ve lived in QC for 8 years... I’ve seen lots of cars like that lol. Early 2000 VW get pretty terrible too :)

My 2008 3 hatch was very reliable for the six years and 65,000 miles I owned it and didn’t have any rust when I traded it in around October 2015. The rust hasn’t been an issue since 2009 or so. I drove mine throughout winter, including when Kentucky feels the need to dump copious amounts of salt on the roads when one inch of snow is forecasted.

I think the only issues I had with my 3 were the upper passenger motor mount, which didn’t act any different (I.E. no engine shaking) but started to leak a bit as it was a hydraulic unit. Replaced that in 2011 and then in 2015, I replaced the brake light switch under the dashboard, which was a $12.00 part and a five minute job.

In contrast, my 2006 3 hatch was a little rusty when I bought it 16 months and 27K miles ago and it’s only gotten worse. I wish I’d known to hold out for an 08+ when I bought mine.

But I’ve replaced nothing other than normal maintenance/wear stuff, despite the fact that I was putting over 500 hard city miles on it a week for the first 10 months.

Toyota will drive rustier than most will even drive (grumbles like old man and shuffles off)
