Regular coke and diet coke are significantly different and “new” coke was just diet coke with regular sweetner. But in taste tests “new” coke consistently beat out pepsi and classic coke, with classic coke losing to pepsi. But people flipped shit over new coke and coke went back to “classic”
And my millennial lips will never “new” coke. Kind of crazy. Because I’ve said diet coke tasted different from regular coke, beside the sweetner, since I tried diet coke. But I just can’t get over the artifical sweetner :(

While true (and rum is historically a “subpar” liquor), Pepsi’s inherent sweetness amplifies the sugary flavor of rum making it nearly unpalatable. Coke’s markedly less sweet taste, on the other hand, masks some of the sweetness and lets the other flavors come through.
