I Can't Afford Drawers

Ultimately I’d like a set of drawers for the trunk of my Land Cruiser, but for now I needed some cheap, semi-permanent storage. As luck would have it, Walmart would offer up this ugly as shit Plano trunk in their clearance section today.

I’ve been walking past it for a couple weeks, nearly bought it once, but today I saw my patience had paid off. They dropped the price from $30 to $20 (half the original price), where it went from ‘nice little discount’ to ‘no brainer’. I checked the latches, gave it a quick look over, and it came home with me.

The only thing I don’t like, aside from it being two shades of green, is that instead of hinges it has four latches and the lid comes off totally. I can remedy that, however, with four bolts and some plastic welder.

Next step is removal of the third row seats, then maybe hitting the trunk with some tan plastidip or at least a bunch of stickers, because again, it’s ugly as shit.

This looks awfully familiar...

I actually really like these Plano cases, other than the lid issue as mentioned

Attach some hooks to the bottom that can catch on the seat latch loops in the floor. That will keep it from sliding around.

You can’t afford drawers, so you’re going around with only trunks? Or do the two shades of green mean you’re going commando?

How does a color combo that bad get approved for production? Neither of those colors alone are particularly awful, but that’s a seriously terrible combination.

I bought that same trunk about 2 years ago. I like the gasket in the lid, not totally waterproof but enough to leave in the bed of the truck and not worry about on long rides if it rains.

It’s a really nice case aside from the color. I also just pulled the third row seats, so I’ve got a ton of space now.

My dad used to work for a company that made nylon webbing and paracord. At the time they were making the webbed seatback pockets for GM, and they had a person on staff who’s title was ‘Harmony Director’. Her entire job was making sure things made of different materials were the same color, or at least as close as possible. I don’t think Plano has a harmony director.

It seems pretty decent. It’s almost overkill for what I’m asking it to do, I don’t need any water resistance since it’ll be in the Cruiser, but I dig it anyway.
