Kinja'd!!!

So, noticed a few folks got the 911 kit for christmas..... Anyone else kinda pissed that they put all that work into the transmission and motor, just to cover it up with the body????

Usually, (in my experience), that if there’s something cool going on inside a lego kit, they’ll facilitate a way to open the kit up to view it...

After building a working transmission with paddle shifters, connected to a sick little flat motor with moving cam shaft and pistons, just to bury it under the body has left me feeling a bit dejected.......

Yeah, I know there’s a mod get the body off easier... but the key word is easier ... it’s still a pita....

Anyway, first world problems for sure.. but dammit Lego, I was so stoked on seeing those little pistons move....

/lego rant..

Yeah being able to pull the body off would be cooler. I’m still trying to make mine a 6 speed manual like the 911 R.

There is a mod to make the body easier to take off.

I just finished mine, Luckily Daily Drives a Dragon put me on to the “gear change” foul up before I was too far into it. I have not watched this entire video yet, but if it’s legit. I will probably do it to mine because I agree, everything underneath looks awesome.

Wife built one, paddles aren’t doing anything, pulling it apart to see what’s up. I thought Legos were supposed to be fun ... ? Why am I doing a Porsche transmission rebuild?

Yeah-- I saw this.. like i said, it makes it “easier”... but not by much... and it seems there’s a lot of connections around the door hinges/A-pillar that he doesn’t mention in this video.......

Does it not roll or do the paddles not move,

car rolls, paddles move, but nothing happens like it’s permanently stuck in neutral.

Check the gear wheels in the mechanism

I think it is Lego’s way of nudging you to buy a second one.

That thing looks a lot more dense than my 8448 (camshafts?!) but I should ask anyway... have you tried tinkering with it to design a hinge in there? Not that you should have to given the cost of these models, but tinkering is kinda the point of Legos.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I started to not engage the push pins as much as I could until it became clear that there was no way I was going to be able to keep them apart. I would love to be able to pull the body off. I also just found out about the transmission and that is going to bother me for a long time until I finally take it apart to fix it.

You’ve got the little gear lever shifted to Drive versus Neutral, right?

Yep, drive/neutral/reverse — no bueno.
