Continuing from last night. Meet Mr. Saturday Night Special. Nothing spectacular here, but there’s a story behind the red...stuff on the finish.

Kinja'd!!!

Little background on the gun, Cobra Arms is a company from right here in Utah that primarily makes derringer replicas. They expanded their line to some cheaply built revolvers and handguns, and they work okay for what you pay. This one is fun for plinking, hollow points won’t feed well and while it cycles fairly well it’s not well enough that I would trust my life to it firing reliably. I got it for even cheaper than retail at a gun show because of a blemish in the finish (some scratches by the serial # you can see in the photo).

Anywho, went shooting one afternoon with my brother and a friend. Spent a little extra to get one of my favorite (and slightly twisted) plinking targets. A stuffed animal with a can of red spray paint inside. The construction is fairly simple, buy a plushie, cut it open, remove enough fluff that the aerosol can fits inside.

Well I take this little guy out and set him on our range, then start talking to my friend as my brother tries to hit this little bear with the .380. He gets a little frustrated that he can’t hit it, and walks up to it, points the gun about 3 feet away, and fires. I notice what’s happening just a little too late to tell him it’s a bad idea, so this happens:

Kinja'd!!!

Paint erupts all over his arm and my handgun. I eventually cleaned most of the paint off with elbow grease and bore clean. I think it was worth the laughs.

Tl;dr: brother shoots can of spray paint way too close and gets paint on himself and my handgun.

I was just texting my cousin about getting a holster. I just bought a carry gun and haven’t shot it yet. Soon.

I just bought one too. Going to work on getting my Carry this summer most likely. I also have yet to shoot it as I left for NYC and D.C. two days later. Planning on taking it to the range Saturday though. Much excitement.

Thanks to new MO law any yahoo in the state that’s not a felon can carry now. Which is ok, but I am glad I did go through the class a year or two with my wife as I’ll be able to carry I other states.

We both got some guns and we shot hers during deer season on lunch. Didn’t have a target so I used the crappy hat I was wearing. The Ruger LCP is way nicer than my Walter PPK, which I may now sell as it’s not as light or smooth.

The fiancé and I both shot a Ruger and hated how long the trigger action took and would shoot low because of it. Found the Springfield to be just perfect.

We also have no license to carry concealed or open. Also not limited to handguns.

Shooting metal canisters with compressed gasses in them at close range. Genius! Almost as smart as shooting 3 feet away from your backstop (assuming there was one). That’s a pretty beautiful looking view to be blasting spray paint all over.

The OP just wrote about his bro not being able to shoot for shit, amd you think it’s ok that any yahoo can carry a handgun in public? I’ve had a CCW for about a decade amd half the guys that passed the class with me should not have been allowed to carry a firearm. The geezer next to me during the shooting portion couldn’t hit a giant silhouette from 3 yards, and they let him keep retaking the test. It was absurd.

As someone who shoots on the regular, there is nothing great about that story or that picture. Although it is what I associate with the Cobra/Hi Point crowd.

I know this range! The one on the west side of Utah Lake, right? I can’t recall who owns it, but I used to go shooting there all the time when I lived in the area years ago. You could probably make good money mining lead and copper out of that spot...

It very well might have the best view from any range in the lower-48, let alone an open range.

I hope these are better built than the Hi-Points I’ve played with. I’m sure they work, but their precision is abysmal and they’re clunky as hell...

That’s the place. They banned shooting there a few years ago, though.

The Cobra isn’t terribly accurate, but feels reasonably solid to shoot simply because it weighs a ton for its size.

But that LCP trigger is the WORST, though...unless you have an LCP Pro or an LCP II. I mean, I know it’s lighter, but my EDC is a CZ P-07, which is 2 lbs 2 oz when fully loaded. Once you get used to carrying it, you don’t even notice the extra weight anymore. How old is your PPK? I mean, when it comes to smooth action, a PPK in single action is pretty good.

It’s old. The PPK is a brick. And the trigger pull was outrageous compared to the LCP. Since I shot them right together recently I feel this is accurate. Although that weight did lower the recoil.

The thing is I don’t go out and shoot consistently so I can’t really judge too harshly or different guns. I really only shoot what I own. And lately it’s been my hunting rifle before deer season & not during. Here is to more shooting in ‘17.

I wondered when the housing developments out there would result in it being shut down. Too bad, although some of the people that went out there scared me at times.

Hi-Points are heavy, too. If you shook the last on I held (brand new), it rattled and you could feel some parts flopping about (slide?). That scares me...

Glad to hear that the Cobra is apparently safe to shoot.

Good trigger discipline.
