I love a good cheap German Car as much as the next guy, and I’m a fan of the 8-Series, but I wouldn’t touch that thing with a 20 foot pole.

Thats where I first saw it. SOOOO tempting. A couple years from now even examples in that terrible of condition will cost too much.

Why not both?

Yes.

I’ll settle for a decent 840ci

I already have a 1991 750IL, so I need a coupe to match right?

The price on an 8-series in good condition is insane. Still might be cheaper than trying to restore a cheap one though :P

I hope that was a rhetorical question.

Right now a nice example is more cost efficient, but that won’t last long. By 2020 that will be a 7-8k car.

So what you’re saying is I’d be crazy NOT to buy this one!

I would like to get an estimate from guys wiser/more experienced than me.

Can this be fixed and moderately restored for $10k? Because good examples seem to be going for $20k....

I think this showed up in the obscure cars for sale fb group a few days ago. Considering the appreciation they are starting to receive now, I’m surprised it hasnt sold yet.

Well then, I’ll just take my hopes to the back yard and ask them to stare at the babbling brooks while I shoot their brains out.

Out of curiosity, what is it in particular that blows the 10k budget?

Just paint, body work, and a bunch of random, yet specific, trim pieces will take most of the 10k, if not all of it. Then refurbishing the suspension and drive line. Then fixing broken or tattered interior switches and pieces. And, after all that, you still have a 25 year old v12 and slushbox with close to 200k miles.

Don’t get me wrong, if I have the cash and space, I’d throw it in a barn and tell everyone I own a v12. Unfortunately, this car will be a parts car in the near future. If it can survive and prices keep going up, it will one day be worth restoring.

And I’m no perfectionist, I have an e30 with 430,000 miles.
