I chanced upon this photo in my photo library. At first, I dismissed the van as a last-generation Ford Transit, but upon closer inspection, it quite clearly isn’t one.

Anyone know? I’m thinking that it’s probably Chinese.

They are trying to bring back LDV or at least production of the vehicles under a different name.

It’d be nice to see some LDV vans knocking about again, the Convoy was the sound of my childhood with its 2.5L NA Ford Diesel, I know that screaming underpowered drone anywhere. Everyone had these minibuses and they weren’t changed much from the Sherpa, generations must have had to deal with the misery that was the Sherpa/Convoy.

My last experience with a Sherpa was doing a midnight exercise. Dropped in the middle of nowhere after spending a few minutes getting thorn into the air because our van had solid suspension.

I didn’t know that you served in the forces. I was set on joining when I was a youngster in Sussex ACF (back when there wasn’t a cadet regt, so was PWRR) but health reasons deterred me at the time, when it all passed I had just started to study engineering, so gave up on it. I’m still within the enlistment age range so you never know.

You know LDV is on their last legs when their van looks Chinese.

SAIC’s been building it in China for years, they bought the tooling off the Russians who bought it off LDV’s administrators.

Ye’, which is why I was more surprised as to hear they wanted to start building them again in the U.K.

I can’t find the article but it was on ARonline with a couple of links elsewhere. I found it originally as I was looking at the last Leyland single decker buses built in Workington, Cumbria.

Could be to fill more capacity at Longbridge? They certainly have plenty of extra room.
