They just put a another tax on gas. The carbon tax, it adds 10c/L more. That’s on top of the HST(13%), Federal Exercise Tax (10c/L), and the Provincial Fuel Tax (14.7c/L). The FET, PFT, & CT are hidden in the price of fuel. So 91 octane is $1.31/L, almost 0.35c/L is the tax you don’t see.
If my Juke takes 39.4L, it be $51.61, with the 13% HST that add $6.71 to the $51.61 making it $58.32. If I just paid HST I pay $37.85 pre HST, the HST add $4.92 making it $42.77.
There is also the income tax, and other municipal taxes. Ontario pays some of the highest taxes in North America.

The gas isn’t all that bad in Ontario though, at least compared to Europe. Thanks to the exchange rate to freedom dollars it’s only like $4 a gallon!

Hydro is insane in Ontario. Living in Vancouver I’m used to assuming I pay the most for anything in Canada, but our hydro isn’t as bad as yours

Then there are insurance premiums, it’s up there with BC. Ontario is just expensive. I live north of Toronto, every one is coming up here to avoid Toronto living costs. That is making housing inflate lots, last year the avg house price went up 20%. I really considering moving to the east coast, so much cheaper (and the sea food).

I know people who moved from here to Halifax, and they love it. All the places I’ve considered buying a house instead of renting are too expensive now, I’m not sure what I’m gonna do unless the market cools

This will increase the popularity of the Prius as well as BEVs in Canada.
As far as electricity rates go, the off-peak rates are still relatively low. The only people that got hosed recently are the people who kept their A/C on all day during on-peak times.
I don’t do that. Hence, I had an electricity bill that was only marginally higher.

Yikes, C$0.35 / liter works out to about $1 / gallon. Michigan just raised their gas tax to $0.26 / gallon, which is the sixth highest in the US.

Yea we use American octane numbers, but we don’t use RON. We use MON, so your 95 is our 91. 91 MON is 95.3 RON.
