I’ve never flown on a 747. It’s starting to look like I need to get on the stick, unless I want to make the flight in a cargo crate.

They’re a treat. And the upper deck is the best seat in the sky. You still have some time, but in a few years they may be gone. Happy New Year!

It does look like the crew was having one last bit of fun in that one before retirement.

Sadness, but good show either way.

#1 was smoking pretty damn good too. Wow.

Hate to see another 744 go.

I’ve flown on 747s three times. Absolutely an experience.

Although slightly later, it’s got that George Kennedy
“Airport” 1970's feel. Yeah yeah, a 707 but hey, same company built them.

Cockpit qualified young man : Mr. Patroni? Don’t you hear him? Shut down.

Joe Patroni : I can’t hear a thing. There’s too much noise. Hold on. We’re GOIN FOR BROKE!

Cockpit qualified young man : [ after the plane gets out of the ditch ] The instruction book said that was impossible.

Joe Patroni : That’s one nice thing about the 707. It can do everything BUT read.

[ throws his chewed and soggy cigar over his shoulder ]

I loved flying them in business class from CA to Asia in the 90's. Always on the top deck.

Going by the trails when he puts the throttle back in at the end, are there only 3 engines spinning? Looks like the interior port side engine is not leaving a trail? Or perhaps it’s the only one running cleanly?

Other planes seem to have that kind of big bounce, and then they go up on that angle. A 747 just kind of regally floats upward. The best takeoffs ever.

Looks like all four are running, just three of them (especially engine 1) are pretty uh...inefficient?
