My friend had a neighbor who lived in a mobile home. One day, he heard the muffled thump of a gun going off in his neighbor’s trailer. A minute or two passed, then he heard three more. A few minutes later, the neighbor came ambling up to his front door.
He asked his neighbor what had happened. The neighbor said he was cleaning his gun and just had it put together when a mouse ran across the floor. He couldn’t help himself and took a shot at it. He missed.
My friend asked what the other shots were for. The neighbor said that even though he missed the mouse, he did manage to hit a water line. The other shots were to make drain holes so the living room wouldn’t flood while he wandered over to borrow a pipe wrench so he could turn the water off.

Pet-proof poison baits and two cats are my recipe for relatively mouse free living out in the woods. This winter has been better because of the snow cover. They’re not seeking alternative shelter as aggressively.

I used to have a mouse and rat problem here... then I got a cat. Haven’t seen evidence of a mouse or rat for the last year and a half.
