What do the codes such as “NA8C” or “NA6" mean?

NA - first gen Miata.
They were made with 1.6 and 1.8L engines, so it’s NA6 or NA8 for short.
But they didn’t mix model years, so 90-93 was NA6 and 94-97 was NA8. (I’m pretty sure the switch was in 94)
edit: never heard of NA8C though - I’m not sure what the C is

Yeah, it’s just another brief designation. 94 was the start of the 1.8L, NA8 (as opposed to the earlier 1.6L, NA6).

Naturally Aspirated Eight Cylinder. It was a rare option for Miatas a few years ago.

Others have said what NA6 means, I’ve never seen NA8C. Maybe that means it came with a hairdryer. If so I guess mine didn’t get that option.

I believe NA8C refers to the Japanese model code for the 1.8L, though you usually see it as E-NA8C. To complicate things further, the Japanese model code is NA6CE for the 1.6L. Not knowing Mazdas well enough, I don’t know what the “C” and “E” stand for.

no the c stands for curling iron. Its had a nice inverter to run it. I believe the factory curling irons with the mazda branding are quite hard to find even on ebay.

I vaguely remember that the ‘93s came in three trim levels, A, B and C. I had a “B” model, which got me electric windows and cruise control, neither of which I particularly wanted. If that carried on into ‘94 and on, then I guess NA8C might mean “first-generation” (NA), “1.8 liter engine” (8) “so-fawncy top trim level with leather seats” (C).

Yeah they did make weird option packages. Like you could get AC but no power steering. I particularly like the triple black cars. Black paint, black top, and black interior.
